There is a locking pin that goes on the right side of the engine. It is an internal torx bolt between the oil filter and the clutch area. Hope this helps. You can also use an impact gun

The main dealer will charge probably about £2000 without any cleaning. MB Specialist might charge a bit less. Why not buy some tools and do it yourself whilst following my step by step tutorial🙂

@@Plermpel Oh I understand now. I had to weld the tall stands and the small lifting table especially for this type of jobs as I work on my own, I don't want to get injured or cause damage to the cars. Where there is a will there is a way😁

So my bmw e38 740i (m62 non vanos) runs well ans seems strong, but sometimes, when i accelerating i get a sudden lack of power, for about one second, and i have noticed that when the car is warm and the visco fan turns on the car lower the revs, and go back to normal ( i don't know if it is normal) but the big problem is this sudden gap of power :( . I have changed, all spark plugs, fuel pump, all filters, clean the tank, maf clean, water pump and hoses, trans position sensor and zf rebuild kit (works good), can be the injectors? I also noticed some crack under the maf band in the big air intake hose, but i haven't any idea :(

You have already checked a lot of things. Consider some of these as they may help you find the problem: Replace fuel filter, I changed one on an E39 and was a 21 year old filter that was on the car from day 1. Could be fuel injectors as you suspect, ultrasonic clean or replace. Mass air flow sensor - clean or replace if faulty Air filter - replace if not done already Could be a vacuum leak. Use a smoke machine as I found a leak on my 740i a few years ago ob the back of the PCV or CCV valve Could be throttle body, O2 sensors, or a transmission issue. Hope this helps

So i have replaced my fuel filter and air filter (i have a bmc like k&n i don't know if it is good on those cars) but i have noticed a thing, now i have rough idle especially when i do cold starts, and today morning with a normal external temperature about 20° the car runs good, but seems runs bad on hot days like yesterday, about 30°, i have cleaned the maf, but i have heard in those cars, the maf fails and need the replace, is this for you? There are some changes over the years. Early models like mine have the big air filter, the newer models have made some small changes to the N57 and air filter housing is one of these changes. Thanks for watching

Hi and thanks for leaving your feedback and opinion. The intake ports were taped up so nothing can get in. The valley was also vacuum cleaned too. I am sorry you didn't give the rest of the video a go as I used mostly hand tools to clean the valley to valley pan surface. I used the dremel to detail around the contact surfaces and soft brass brushes were used not to damage the surface. I actually developed e new way to seal the valley pan. I used a grinder to grind down the original valley pan gasket stops and used a paper/rubber Ajusa gasket from the Ajusa M60 M62 full engine kit. I show this in the other videos. I did this 7 years ago, I am running standard 105° C thermostat and use the car as a daily driver. So far after 7 years there have been no issues. By the way the silver BMW is 740i E38 which I have been driving as a daily car for years but the fuel tank is badly rusted so I just stopped driving it last week as I will be restoring the tank and whole rear axle. Now driving a lovely Msport 530i E39 Touring. Much lighter, sportier and easier on fuel than the E38

You can replace conrod and main bearings on most engines. N57 is known for wearing these and spinning them if not done on time. On this occasion the owner did not want these replaced but would have been a good opportunity to do it when the engine was out and sump was off

Most of the ones I have seen have 2. Some are made of Aluminium some rubber. Depends on the model

Hi You can try and follow the pattern shown for the n57 and do it in a similar way or follow my link and purchase car manuals for your model. It is money well spent if you are planning to keep the car and work on it yourself🤝🏻

It will be a bit more difficult with the intake in place but not impossible. I would recommend to remove the intake and clean it and also clean the valves. Egr valve on these engines covers the intake ports and valves with soot in less than 10k miles. Don't ask me how I know 😁

@@TheKeenMechanic thanks for your reply. I do want to clean the intake manifold as my car is almost at 120k miles but cannot find anyone who I can trust to walnut blast the valves unless anyone has a recommendation in and around London.

@@TheKeenMechanic when removing the oil filter housing, what is the best method to drain the coolant to prevent any coolant getting into the engine. The N57 2013 LCI does not have a coolant drain. Thank you in advance.

@@MeryemKupeli-cz2jf You can do a good job with Mr.Muscle oven cleaner and brake cleaner. Check out my video. I bought a walnut blaster but to be honest if you are not in a big hurry you can close valves, fill up ports with oven cleaner and may have to repeat twice. They will be as good as new. The benefit of the wallnut shells cleaning as you can clean the ports straight away. However for your intake manifold you will not be able to clean with walnut sheels.

I think you can risk it. I have done it on my E38 740i twice without the software. Put your hand on the transmission sump and when it starts to feel too warm to touch would be about right. Do this at your own risk of course 😉

Be careful as there is a key on the camshaft that car brake if you force it. I will be doing a video on how to rebuild the whole engine and the removal of the camshaft will be in the video. Use an impact gun or make a tool to hold the cam sprocket and then use a spanner. Be careful not to damage the key as then you will need a new head

​@@TheKeenMechanicI'm not forcing the cam sprocket just trying to undo the bolt that holds it. Problem is now I've accidentally moved the cam sprocket from where the timing marks line up. If they line up on the cam sprocket can it be one of two options.... exhaust and compression? Thanks

Hi My alternator fell off first, then it was the slight rattle but not too loud. I raised the van on the lift and with the engine running I saw the wabble of the crank pulley. Very very lucky I didn't lose the engine. Best of luck with your repair
